If your child likes puzzles and likes arguing about why an answer follows, the International Logic Olympiad is worth an hour of your attention. Here is the plain version for families in Thailand: what ILO is, how Stanford University is involved, who can enter, what it costs, and how Beyond Code Academy runs the 2027 cycle here.
01 / ILO
ILO is an annual competition in logical reasoning and problem-solving for school students, founded in partnership with Stanford University. It is not the United Nations International Labour Organization — the two share an abbreviation and nothing else.
There are two divisions, Junior and Senior. Everyone starts with an in-person preliminary round at a regional partner venue, and the top scholars from each country go on to represent it at the Final Round at Stanford University, California, on 1–3 July 2027.

Your child needs to fit the age and school-grade rules for their division, be comfortable reading and answering in English, and register on the official ILO portal once it opens on 14 January 2027.
Thai schools, bilingual programmes, and international schools all qualify. If your family lives or studies here, you sit the exam here — ILO verifies the residence location after payment, so choose Thailand only when that is genuinely where you are.

Junior is for students aged 11–14 in middle school (US grades 6–8), usually Prathom 6 to Matthayom 2 here. Thailand sits the preliminary round on 11 April 2027, and mentorship runs for 12 Saturday sessions (24 hours).
Senior is for students aged 14–18 who are in high school (US grades 9–12) when they register — usually Matthayom 3 to Matthayom 6. The preliminary round is 18 April 2027, and mentorship runs for 15 Saturday sessions (30 hours), following topics from Stanford’s Introduction to Logic.
The overlap is what catches families out: a student who is 14 on 1 January 2027 still has to match the school-grade rule for whichever division they pick. If that is your child, read both official eligibility pages or ask Beyond Code Academy before you pay the entry fee.
04 / ILO
The 2027 Final Round is in person at Stanford University from 1–3 July. ILO selects finalists from the preliminary round at each regional partner venue, and there is no published cut-off score — selection is relative to everyone else who sat the paper at that venue. Finalists then compete as a team representing their region or country.
Medals are a separate thing. Both divisions award Gold to the top 5% of all preliminary-round participants, Silver to the top 10%, and Bronze to the top 15%, with a digital certificate issued after the Final Round. A medal is not a ticket to California; the finals have limited capacity.
Families arrange travel, visas, and the costs of the final-round weekend themselves. ILO can provide documentation for a visa application but does not issue visas. Confirm the current finalist rules on the official Junior and Senior awards pages.

Registration opens on the official portal on 14 January 2027 and closes on 21 March 2027. The listed competition fee is US$50 per participant. ILO offers financial aid toward that fee for families earning under US$20,000 a year — the form and its 17 February 2027 deadline are on the official registration pages, and the aid covers the fee only, not mentorship or travel.
Thailand’s preliminary dates, announced with Beyond Code Academy, are 11 April 2027 for ILO Junior and 18 April 2027 for ILO Senior, at a regional venue in Central Bangkok. The official ILO pages quote a wider window — 10–11 April for Junior, 17–18 April for Senior — because dates vary by testing centre.
Both divisions sit the exam in English. Preparing at home in whatever language you speak is completely normal; what matters is that your child can read the problems and write the solutions in English under timed conditions.

Central Bangkok is the confirmed regional venue for 2027, and for now it is the only one. We want this to be as accessible as possible for families across Thailand, so wherever you live, tell us your location when you register your interest — that is what Beyond Code Academy uses to work out where another centre would genuinely help.
Mentorship runs on Saturdays in Bangkok from 31 October 2026, Junior at 10:30–12:30 and Senior at 16:30–18:30, with recordings for revision. Talk to the academy if you need an online option or a particular campus — Sam Yan, Thonglor, or online, as listed on the contact page.

ILO is a reasoning contest. It is not a coding contest, and it is not a school-subject olympiad in the IMO sense. The students who get the most from it are the ones who enjoy puzzles and proofs and keep asking why one thing follows from another. For the few who go, the Stanford final is a genuine international academic experience — and the way of thinking students build getting there is what all of them keep.
The honest way to decide: sit the official sample test on the ILO portal together, come to the Zoom information session on 9 October 2026, or just ask us — all of that happens before the US$50 entry fee. Mentorship is optional and priced separately from the competition fee.

No. Registration goes straight through the official ILO portal, and mentorship is optional and priced separately from the US$50 entry fee. The Saturday sessions in Bangkok from 31 October 2026 are there for families who want their child to prepare with structure and someone to ask along the way.
Sit the in-person preliminary round at the Thailand venue — 11 April 2027 for Junior, 18 April 2027 for Senior. ILO selects finalists from that regional pool, and the comparison is with the students who sat there, not against a fixed score. Finalists represent their country at Stanford University on 1–3 July 2027. Medal cutoffs (top 5% / 10% / 15%) are decided separately.
The learning is the point. Preparing for ILO gives students a habit of mind they use everywhere: reading an argument closely, noticing what does not actually follow, and explaining why an answer holds. Along the way there are Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards on preliminary-round rank, a real deadline worth preparing for, and other students who enjoy the same kind of problems. Stanford is a wonderful bonus for a few; the reasoning stays with everyone.
